About Chris Bidleman Photography

ARTIST STATEMENT

Chris Bidleman Photographer

I have been exposed (pun intended) to many art forms in my life from performing arts to visual arts. I started playing piano when I was 9-years old and continue to play and perform today (band website). I tried my hand in graphic arts in college but figured out quickly I can't draw so I stuck with music. Music has given me great insight to the emotional side of the arts and how music can affect your mood as well as your mood affecting the music while playing.

Many in my immediate family are amateur photographers and gave me a chance to play with cameras at an early age. I have been taking photos since I was 10-years old and was always fascinated by capturing the moment from different viewpoints. I spend a lot of time in the outdoors hiking, gardening, skiing and traveling and have had a chance to develop my photographic perspective by capturing some of those magical moments nature presents every moment of every day. I love seeing the colors, shadows, light, textures and structures within a scene much like I hear the different parts of the music for each instrument--the rhythms, note patterns, chords, dynamics and the blend of all those elements coming magically together. Here again one's emotional state of mind and mood can change just by connecting with nature and often I can "hear" the music of what I am seeing.

Photography has been a hobby for me since those early days but in recent years I have taken my art more seriously. My passion has always been landscape and wildlife photography but I have started doing more portraits and event photography too. I hope you can see the love I have for the art form in my photos and they will bring a little of the emotional response and mood I had when I "captured the moment."
